The third wedding anniversary is traditionally leather. It's one of those customs that actually makes sense when you think about it. Leather is durable. It softens with time. It gets better the more it's used. Three years into a marriage — still early, still forming — it's a material that mirrors the thing you're celebrating.

Two commissions from the workshop

Recently, a customer came to us wanting something made for his wife and himself. Their third anniversary. Something they'd both carry. Something with their date on it.

We worked together on the design. The result was a pair of keychain fobs: teardrop-shaped, hand-stitched with brass rings. One carries their wedding date — 11 · 7 · 23 — the other their name. Simple. Quiet. The kind of thing you reach for every day without thinking, until you do think about it.

Another customer came to us for the same occasion — a leather anniversary, and wanted something completely different. Something to wear rather than carry. We talked through what he had in mind, and arrived somewhere neither of us had quite expected.

The brooches are origami boat forms, built from panels of full-grain leather in navy, orange, tan and rust — hand-stitched, each panel a different hide. One for each of them to wear. They take the same craft as everything else in the workshop, just in a completely different direction.

Same occasion. Two couples. Nothing alike.
